...A popular question to most pregnant women. With Kyler, we decided to wait until she was born to find out what we were having. There were a couple different reasons....1) we didn't mind the suspense of not knowing...2) both Vern & I are not big fans of pink or light blue...3)we are both "cheap" and figured if we received yellow and green items, then we could use them for any future kids as well.
When we had our ultrasound in Nicaragua, we told them we didn't want to know, but asked if they could print out my medical info for us to take back with us to the US. When we looked at what they gave us, it stated "Varon", which means boy. We wondered if this was just a default answer or if they really thought we were having a boy. So obviously we were a little biased from that point on on what we thought we would have. And with the way I was carrying, most people said they thought I was having a boy. But since we weren't totally convinced, we made sure to pick out a girl name too. Wasn't that a good thing!!!
Well this time around, Vern still didn't mind waiting, but I felt a little differently. In some ways I feel like it took me a little longer to "bond" or adjust to having Kyler because I was expecting something different. I know part of it was just the shock that we were actually parents and responsible for this little one. Another reason for wanting to know was to be able to tell Kyler whether she was having a little brother or a little sister (I mean I realize that she doesn't really know what she's in for either way, but it's easier for me).
So I suggested to Vern that we have them write it down for us at my ultrasound and open it Christmas morning. I'm really glad we did it that way. It was the Christmas present that I was most looking forward to opening. And for those of you who don't yet know, we found out we're having a boy!
Kyler is excited to be a big sister, and she knows that baby brother is in mama's belly. We've tried to talk about other families that have recently had a second baby. I know it will still be hard for her to grasp once baby brother arrives, but it's been fun to talk about.
